What a procedure it was. You just had a fabulous snowfall. No footprints yet. You were compelled to go outside and play. So began the project of the outdoor winter dressing tradition. Mom would begin the dressing. There were snow pants - big, huge, padded snow pants. Then you had at least two pairs of winter mittens and socks; rubber boots came next, then the sweaters and padded jacket, the hood and the scarf. It was an ordeal that only a kid in the snow could bear. All kids were unrecognizable except by color of the jacket. You could barely move.
